Palermo at a glance

Palermo is several neighborhoods wearing one name, and the one you land in decides your year. Soho is cobbles, boutiques and restaurant queues; Hollywood is lower, wider, full of production studios and bars; Botánico and Chico are embassies, plane trees and quiet; Las Cañitas is three blocks of dinner. Everywhere there are parks — the Bosques, the Botánico, the rose garden — dog walkers with eight leashes at once, and a café on every corner that will let you work all afternoon. It is the softest landing in the city and you pay for it, in rent and in the noise on the nightlife blocks.

Who it's for

First months: you will meet people, find a café, and nothing will be hard.

The catch

It is the expat default, which means dollar listings, Airbnb churn in the building, and a year that can pass without much Spanish.

The overall read is an even weighting of the 12 marks we have for this barrio — a starting point, not a verdict. Of our six lenses it ranks highest under “Creative & nightlife”. The tick is the median of the 48 barrios. Eight marks are computed from public data and four are our read; what goes into each is on how we score.

Reported robbery & theft

reported crimes · 2025

35.3 reported robberies and thefts per 1,000 residents — around the city rate of 32.2.

3,879 robberies (with violence or threat) and 4,837 thefts were reported in Palermo in 2025, against 247,252 residents in private dwellings at the 2022 census. Reporting rates, visitors, population changes since the census and differences between blocks limit the comparison. These counts do not measure all crime or predict personal safety. Thinking about Palermo?

A barrio is half the decision. The other half is the lease — the guarantee, the up-front cash, the contract terms — and that part we walk through with you.
