about us · quiénes somos

Two people, one country, (a lot) of paperwork.

dos personas, un país, demasiados trámites

We met in Central America — Sofi, an Argentine a long way from home; Sam, an American working his way south. Eventually the road pointed to Argentina, and we did what everyone does: read official websites, asked ChatGPT, devoured expat forums, and made a tidy plan.

Then we lived the difference. Residency, banking, health insurance, the apartment hunt — we did all of it ourselves, and it was hard even with a native Spanish speaker and lifelong Argentine. Resources were outdated. Requirements changed. Offices disagreed with their own websites. Our tidy plan crashed into reality. Professional services exist for specific needs, but none cover the holistic needs of immigrants.

So we kept notes, made contacts, and built the service we wish we'd had. HabitaAR is our acquired knowledge and professional network — everything we learned the hard way, organized and shared so your experience goes faster and smoother than ours did.

LO
VIVIMOS
// the team · el equipo

Two halves of one operation.

Sam

Product · tech · financeUS expat · programmer

Sam writes the software, shapes the product, and keeps the numbers honest. A programmer from the US, he moved his whole life to Argentina and learned the system from the foreigner's perspective — including his own residency, filed without a lawyer. He knows which documents and steps actually matter, and how much calmer it all goes when someone who knows the country (and the language) is sitting next to you.

Sofi

Operations · user success · partnershipsArgentine · bilingual

Sofi runs operations, user success, and partnerships. A career working in Buenos Aires city government, she's at home in the offices that make newcomers nervous. Sofi does the groundwork to verify how things actually work — on the phone and in person — so our advice comes from the real world, not the comment section or AI hallucinations. She was Sam's unfair advantage. Now she's yours.

// receipts · por qué sabemos de esto

Why we're actually good at this.

Not a mission statement. A list of things we have personally done.

// sam
  • Moved here from the US and understands the expat experience firsthand.
  • Got his own residency without a lawyer — the family route, filed by himself.
  • Finance and crypto expert. He's tried every way to get cash and pay bills, and knows which options work.
  • Built this site, and the research behind it.
// sofi
  • The bilingual local from Buenos Aires. Knows who to talk to and what to say.
  • Spent her career in city government. At home in the offices that make newcomers nervous.
  • Verified our healthcare research by phone: the city's 147 hotline, then the prepagas — the private prepaid health plans — one by one.

Between the two of us: the residency, the documents, the bank account and the apartment hunt — done ourselves, not read about.

// how we work · cómo trabajamos

We automate what we can. We show up for the rest.

// 01

Technology, where it helps

We're tech people and we love AI tools — we use them every day for research, drafts, and coverage. But we've learned exactly where the software stops. No model has ever stood in line at a government office.

// 02

Humans, where it matters

Some steps still take a person: an in-person appointment, a phone call in castellano (Argentine Spanish), a read of the room at the Migraciones (migration office) or bank counter. And honestly — it's just nice to have a real human on your side while you do this.

// 03

The gap is the job

What the rules say and what actually happens are sometimes different things. We track both, verify in person, and tell you the difference plainly — before it costs you a morning, a fee, or a flight.

the short version

Everyone deserves a Sofi.

Someone on your side who has been through it, knows the real order of operations, and tells you when it's time to bring in a lawyer or an accountant. That's what we are: the people who've used the lawyers, translators and tutors themselves and will introduce you when it helps — without taking a cut.
